• "I know exactly how you feel." Every illness and every person is different. What felt like a rough week for you may be a completely different experience for them. Entering their situation with humility — "I can only imagine what this is like" — is more honest and more comforting than mapping your experience onto theirs.

• Vague platitudes without sincerity. "Sending positive vibes" or "You've totally got this" can feel empty to someone who is genuinely suffering. Specific, sincere words — even short ones — land better than enthusiastic but hollow encouragement. A simple "I'm praying for you and I'm here" is worth more than a paragraph of cheerleading.
